FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about ISO 22000 Certification

ISO 22000 is the international standard for food safety management systems along the entire food chain. Here we answer the most common questions.

Who is ISO 22000 relevant for?

The standard is aimed at all organisations in the food chain. From primary production through processing and transport to trade, as well as manufacturers of packaging and additives. It is applicable across sectors and stages.

What role does HACCP play in ISO 22000?

ISO 22000 integrates the HACCP principles into a comprehensive management system and complements them with prerequisite programmes (PRP) and the management system approach. In the audit we assess the hazard analysis and the control of critical control points.

How does the certification work?

Our activities are strictly limited to certification services: planning and conducting certification audits to assess conformity of the food safety management system with the requirements of ISO 22000, certification decision based on the audit results, issuance and maintenance of ISO 22000 certificates, and conducting surveillance and recertification audits in accordance with applicable rules and defined time intervals.

What is the difference to FSSC 22000?

FSSC 22000 builds on ISO 22000, complements it with technical specifications (prerequisite programmes) and additional requirements, and is recognised by the GFSI. If your customers require a GFSI-recognised certification, FSSC 22000 is usually necessary.
